a celebration of traditional craftsmanship

Every so often, a project comes along that reminds you just how special it is to photograph work of this calibre. The Pool House was one of those projects, and I was genuinely thrilled to be part of it.

Set within the Wiltshire countryside, this beautifully crafted pool house barn has a presence that’s difficult to fully appreciate until you spend time with it. I was lucky enough to photograph it in the early morning light, when the warm tones of the brickwork, the texture of the stone roof and the richness of the oak began to reveal themselves. It was one of those mornings when the building seemed to come alive.

What really sets this project apart, though, is the craftsmanship. The precision of the timberwork, the quality of the materials and the care taken with every junction and detail are exceptional. The cast-iron doors bring a lovely sense of refinement, while the oak structure gives the building a warmth and permanence that feels entirely right for its setting.

As a photographer, I’m always drawn to this level of detail. The things that can easily be overlooked at first glance, but that reveal the real quality of a project when you take the time to look more closely. Here, nothing feels rushed or compromised. Every element has been considered, and the result is a building that feels both beautifully resolved and wonderfully enduring.

There’s something particularly satisfying about seeing traditional materials and time-honoured skills used to create a building that feels entirely relevant today. This is a new structure, but it has a sense of belonging as though it has always been part of the landscape.

The Traditional Carpenters have delivered something truly special here, and it was a privilege to document the work and the people behind it.

And honestly, this was one of those projects that gave me goosebumps. The light, the materials, the craftsmanship where everything came together in a way that made photographing it an absolute joy.
